Why Use an H Profile Construction ?

The name H Profile is taken from the vertical support that provides slots into which the shorter logs locate. A cost effective construction type for garden log cabins.

Cost Saving

Without doubt, the biggest reason for utilising an H profile construction for a log cabin is the cost savings that can be made. By reducing the number of full length logs, the manufacturer is making better use of avasilable timber and thus reduces production costs. Cheaper production means a cheaper end product for the customer.

Construction

So how does an H profile construction work ?
Using vertical supports to maintain strength in the wall, a log that would normally be 3.0m plus in length, can be broken down into shorter lengths, often as short as 1.0m. The top and bottom logs, remain full length, which keys the whole construction together. In addition, you are supplied with screws 220mm long. These are screwed through the newly positioned log into the log beneath.

Questions ?

  • Does the wall construction compromise strength ?
No. The vertical supports ensure the wall strength is comparable to a solid log construction.
  • Is there a greater risk of draughts between joints ?
No. As long as the screws are used correctly as per the instructions, there is no chance of draughts between the joints.
  • Are H Profile cabins always cheaper ?
Yes, because they better utilise lengths of timber, the price will always benefit the customer.
  • Is lifespan affected by this design ?
No, follow the manufacturers guide and longevity is not compromised by this design.
  • Why aren't all cabins produced this way ?
Some customers have a preference for solid logs due to appearance.
